I am a professional Chainsaw Wood Sculptor, and I carve with chainsaws and power tools. I started in 2009 and initially received great help and inspiration from my brother Tim Burgess – also a full time Chainsaw Wood Sculptor. I provide wide ranging bespoke sculptures for private and public customers as well as for large corporate clients.
I can work to detailed sketches and architects plans, for example I have completed over 50 bespoke commissions for the Nando’s Restaurant Chain – from organic design columns, to sculptural seating.
I live in Mobberley, Cheshire and have strong links with a local tree surgeon and installer to provide an excellent service, from the sourcing of quality timber, through the sculpting stage, to the installation phase to give a truly unique piece. I regularly demonstrate and compete throughout the year.
In my first year of competing I was placed third in the European Chainsaw Championships 2010, and I was joint first place in the England vs Germany competition in 2011.
I was the first Chainsaw Wood Sculptor to exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2013 – In it’s Centenary Year. This led to an interview with Alan Titchmarsh and then an appearance on his show which then led to a commission by Dame Judi Dench. I am a regular exhibitor at RHS Tatton Park, and again this year will see myself and Tim exhibiting our Chainsaw Wood Sculptures at the show. I have also, in conjunction with Tim sculpted a Jubilee throne for the Queen.
My work can range from making a 2 foot high commission, to carving a tree stump in someone’s garden, to making a very large bespoke piece that requires scaffolding and several days work !
